Velour @ Zeitgeist Becomes Form - German fashion photography 1945-1995

Last week The Australian Academy of Design and the Goethe Institute hosted a runway event to mark the "finissage" of the inspiring "Zeitgeist Becomes Form" exhibition of German fashion photography 1945-1995, curated by FC Gundlach.  Included were seminal works by sometimes Melbournian Helmut Newton, alongside Juergen Teller, and Willy Maywald to mention only a few.

The evening included a talk by 1950's & 60's Australian model Diane Masters, regaling the audience with tales of her work with close friend Helmut - and the occasional poodle, a runway show featuring vintage accessories by us here at Velour spanning the 40's-80's with hats by master milliner Paris Kyne, and a student runway show entitled "Fashion in Film" with pieces inspired by the films Ever After, Funny Face, Factory Girl, Pearl Harbour, The Wizard of Oz and Morrocco.

Vivienna Lorikeet Designs

Velour is so thrilled to be the only Australian stockist of some of the cutest little rompers/swimsuits you ever did see, made locally in Elwood by the gorgeous Vivienna of "Vivienna lorikeet".















Vivienna started her label just a year ago with the hope of bringing fresh prints and vintage inspired wearable designs to the market. Her pieces are beautifully made, often using vintage fabrics. They're all fully lined but not only are they fab as your new Summer swimsuit, they are the most adorable little one piece rompers, perfect for festivals and lazy Summer days.
She is a super talented self taught designer and these pieces are merely a taste of what's to come, stay tuned as Velour will be bringing you an ever expanding range by this delightful lil lady.

So we've gotta some pretty exciting news, within the next couple of weeks Velour is set to launch a super cute ONLINE BOUTIQUE! So whether you're on the other side of the world, or round the corner and wanting to do some sneaky 1am shopping you'll be able to check out what wares we have on offer, HUZZAH!

In other news, we have some awesome sunglasses in at the moment. There is an extensive range of vintage styles and classic favourites including some nifty little fold up wayfarers perfect for festivals, as well as some wacky 80's deadstock pieces.

Spring Racing Carnival Vintage Hats

If you're frocking up for the races this year Velour has an absolutely wild selection of vintage hats which will most certainly improve your chances of getting in on the fashions on the field prize pool(have you seen the obscene amount of goods and coin that's on offer? gee wiz!).

Love it or loathe it, fur has made a massive fashion comeback and vintage is certainly the most ethical choice. At Velour we have a fabulous selection of both genuine and faux pieces, so whether you're after a glamourous genuine ermine stole circa 1965, a cropped faux jacket for chilly days & nights, or one of those shaggy mongolian lamb or fox pieces which have been popping up all over the runways, you should most certainly stop by!

Just a quick post to let you know we have the most DIVINE vintage inspired swimsuits now in stock. I'll do big posts on each respective label soon, but here's a little sneak peek!



This one might be my favourite of the day, it's of course ever changing as each and every one is absolutely to die for.

Aren't they just the bees knees!? They're all made here in Victoria, with the majority done in original vintage fabrics and therefore only limited quanities of each print are available, making them all the more special.
The cuts are insanely flattering and they are all fully lined and a-ok for swimming.
On top of these guys we always have a gorgeous selection of vintage swimwear, from 60's bikinis and 40's maillots to psychedelic mens trunks. You know where to come for your Summer cossie!
